hi,
i am trying to get my head around your post. i have been a dreamhost customer for so long i won't even leave after the blingy disaster.

i am trying to create an intranet for a group of school teachers and thinking this google apps thing is intriguing but not sure what i can gain...

was going to do the joomla/fireboard/messaging thing but now i am even more confused...maybe i should do this google apps thing...

what do you think this could offer me in the way of a small intranet ?

Just wanted to say thank you!

The only thing missing was deleting the trac.db created by the 'initenv' before doing the sqlite3 read of trac-skel.sql.

Once I did that the process worked beautifully.

Hey MJo!

Good tip. The point is moot either way as the Google apps system lets you run a the Gmail software on your domain.

As far as number 6, Gmail defaults to authenticating over HTTPS, but kicks you back into HTTP unless you tell it otherwise. A long time ago when I initially evaluated it (back when gmail accounts were a hot commodity) if you tried to do anything but authenticate over HTTPS it would redirect you out.

If you are interested stop by later in the week, I think I'm going to make the transition over to Google apps tomorrow and I'll post my thoughts.

Regarding:
4. You can customize From-field.
6. Is there even possibility NOT to use https? Https is supported.

Greetings,

[...] I do apologize, I know this blog must feel like it is entirely about my email habits (or lack thereof). In a previous post of mine, I talked a lot about rolling my own mail synchronization system. It involved either a complex series of small scripts, something hideous like LDAP / imap relaying, switching to mutt, or a combination thereof. Now I’m thinking about a new option. Gmail.
